The summer school is conducted in different ecosystems ranging from tropical rainforest to savannah grassland in Uganda.  held physically as a mixture of plenary lectures in which

all participants join in and targeted workshops in break-out groups in which students split up with respect to their own research and technical interests. Thereby, the students can join the various experts to complete field and laboratory work and gain hands-on experience with the required techniques and tools used. The summer school program engages students in Bwindi impenetrable National Park, Kibale forest national park, Murchison falls national park, Queen Elizabeth National park and Lake Bunyonyi.
