COMMUNITY EMPOWEREMENT PROGRAM
Communities around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park face poverty and population pressure that threaten Mountain gorilla habitats and biodiversity. This program promotes sustainable livelihoods through livestock, beekeeping, and vocational skills to reduce forest dependence, while engaging schools in conservation education, guided forest experiences, and tree planting to inspire long-term environmental stewardship among children.
We engage schools around Bwindi impenetrable national park in conservation education and awareness programs through conducting conservation education lessons, guided Bwindi Forest walks and tree planting aiming at creating mind set change amongst children to embrace conservation of gorillas, other wildlife and their habitat.
Living around the Bwindi impenetrable national park, in close proximity to the gorillas, are some of the country’s poorest and most densely populated communities, increased human population pose threat to mountain gorillas, other wildlife and their habitat due to lack of an alternative source of income.
Supporting and empowering the community through livestock, beekeeping and vocational skills creates financial independence hence reducing dependency on the Bwindi Forest for survival.
