Advancing African Research for Conservation Impact.
Building research capacity in Africa to advance conservation, protect wildlife, and promote sustainable human–wildlife coexistence.
BIODIVERSITY MONITORING AND RESEARCH.
Africa contributes only 3% of the global research and we aim to reverse this trend through our Biodiversity Research Center by building capacity and providing opportunity for young generation researchers.
We partner and engage young generation, students, institutions of higher learning, and individual researchers in research aiming at bridging the research gab and create a better understanding of the ecology using one health approach to ensure coexistence between humans and wildlife. In 1981, Bwindi’s Mountain gorillas were on the edge- only approximately 120 individuals remained.
That’s a growth of +339 gorillas, a powerful sign that conservation efforts and research work. however, more studies and research are to create a better understanding and protection of the endangered gorillas, other wildlife and their habitat.
Ecosystem health, depends on the health of the surrounding environment. We engage students and individual researchers in monitoring the health of ecosystems through biological sample collection and research through one health approach.
We apply the latest technologies to monitor wildlife including camera traps a providing students and researchers with the field skills and experiences.
The Albertine graben where petroleum has been discovered overlap with wildlife and nature conservation with high biodiversity and sensitive ecosystems-Murchison falls national park.
Oil and gas activities can impact the environment from several angles. They may affect human beings, wildlife and biodiversity, together with the associated tourism activities, ttransboundary water resources and the economy of the Albertine Graben ecosystem may also be affected prompting the need for better understanding to safe guard biodiversity and ensure sustainable development.
